What the Lab is for
The Lab renders the relationships in the data β not just the numbers. Stories aren't isolated; they share entities (the same companies, people, tickers and places). Visualising that shared structure reveals clusters, hubs and cross-board flows that a table can't.
- Story Galaxy β a force-directed graph where each node is a story (sized by mentions, coloured by board) and an edge means two stories share entities. Tightly-linked clumps are topic clusters; big well-connected nodes are hub stories.
- Theme Treemap β the conversation budget as nested rectangles: board β theme β story. Area = mention volume. See at a glance who owns the attention.
- Entity Flows β which entities are discussed on which boards; the ones spanning multiple boards (centre) are the connective tissue between /biz/, /g/ and /pol/.
Everything here is computed server-side (entity-overlap Jaccard similarity, hierarchical roll-ups) and baked to JSON. Click any node, cell or entity to open the underlying threads or its story page.
What this tells you: how the stories cluster by shared subject matter. Drag nodes to explore; hover for detail; click a node to open its threads. Edge thickness = Jaccard overlap of entity sets. Use the slider to tighten/loosen the link threshold.
