How to actually buy Qals — the full loop

The plain-English walkthrough, start to finish. Interactive version: try the buy demo (simulated, no real money).

1. Get the wallet

• Desktop (Linux): download the app — one .deb, installs like any app. (mac/Windows builds on the roadmap; the web demo runs anywhere.)
• Phone: open the phone app on your network and Add to Home Screen — or use the web demo right now in any browser.

2. Set up (about a minute)

1. Create account → the wallet generates your 12 recovery words. Write them on paper. They are the ONLY way to recover — no email resets, ever (that's a feature: nothing to hack).
2. Set your passcode (or passkey where supported). This unlocks the wallet on this device; the words recover you everywhere.
3. Your identity publishes — you get a qoll-code (like qoll-b5dd-mh). That's your shareable name.

3. Your wallet address

Your wallet shows your address card: qoll-code + address + a QR. Tap copy. That's where payment lands.

4. Check it (verify before you pay)

• The wallet shows the address's check line — confirm the first + last characters match what you copied. (Habit from crypto: always check the ends.)

5. Choose how much

• Pick a top-up: 20 / 50 / 100 / 500 Qals — 1 Qal = AU$1.00 of services value, bought at about AU$1.20 (the ~20% spread is the margin; there are no other fees). The screen shows exactly what you pay. No hidden anything. One pricing story: Pricing.

6. Pay

Choose your rail: - Card (payment platform) — the normal checkout you know. - Bitcoin (demo today, real rail coming): a BTC invoice with QR + locked rate + 15-minute window. Policy — plainly: BTC-in buys credit; BTC-out is only for refunds of failed purchases, at AUD value at refund-time rate. Qals are not a BTC transfer service. - ETH (demo today): same pattern.

7. Enter details → confirm

Payment screen shows the total, the method, and the destination — one Confirm button. Card: your details go to the payment platform (never to us). BTC/ETH: just send to the invoice address.

8. Credited

• Payment detected → your balance updates → a receipt lands in your wallet (amount, method, time, and an anchor stamp on the network — tamper-evident forever).
• Where your Qals came from: the 500,000 sellable Qals exist from genesis in the issuer wallet (qals:issuer, endowed 2026-09-15). Buying transfers them to your address — nothing is minted or created at sale time. When the wallet is empty, sales stop (402 "sellable supply exhausted"). Check the remainder any time: GET :8823/issuer/status.

9. Spend it

• Compute: hire a GPU by the hour — escrowed until the work lands.
• Chat: send value inside encrypted messages.
• Services: redeem against the catalog (what you're buying is always shown before you confirm).
• Marketplace: data, API usage, content unlocks.

The three honest money-notes: the network itself never charges you anything; you buy at about AU$1.20 per Qal and redeem AU$1.00 of services value — that spread is our margin, shown at checkout; refunds of failed purchases come back at the AUD value. Full detail: Pricing · the fee policy.
